Prof. Dimitris N. Politis
Dimitris N. Politis is Professor of Mathematics and Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of California at San Diego, USA. He has previously taught at Purdue University, the University of Cyprus, and the Athens University of Economics and Business. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University in 1990 after also studying Mathematics and Electrical Engineering.
Prof. Politis has served as member of the Editorial Boards of many journals, including currently: the Journal of Nonparametric Statistics, the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Series B), the Journal of Time Series Analysis, and the Journal of Multivariate Analysis. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and author of over 100 technical papers and of the books: SUBSAMPLING (with J.P. Romano and M. Wolf, Springer-Verlag, 1999), and RECENT ADVANCES AND TRENDS IN NONPARAMETRIC STATISTICS (with M.G. Akritas, Elsevier, 2003).
His research interests involve dependent data and include: Time Series Analysis, Bootstrap Resampling and Subsampling for Dependent Observations, Spatial Statistics, Random Fields and Point Processes, Information Theory and Signal Processing, Nonparametric Function Estimation, Spectral and Probability Density Estimation, Model-free Prediction, and the Econometric Analysis of Financial Time Series.
